Abstract
Spirooxazindiones, obtained from hydroaromatic aniles and monosubstituted malonic acids, are cleaved at 130–150° in the presence of phenylisocyanate yielding CO2, cycloalkylideneaniline and ketene acid anilide. The latter reacts to derivatives of 4-hydroxycarbostyrile. The 3-benzyl-spirooxazindione1 reacts with an excess of phenylisocyanate to 5-benzyl-5-carboxanilino-1,3-diphenyl-barbituric acid. The mechanism of these reactions is discussed.
