Abstract
The tuning properties of the birefringent Fabry-Pérot etalon as a low-loss highfinesse frequency selecting element were examined. The analysis shows that continuous tuning is possible for a special orientation of the crystal; the tuning range is limited primarily by the dispersion of the crystal. Experimental results confirm theoretical predictions.
