Abstract
By treatment of 5-chloro-2-(chloromethanesulfonamido)-benzophenone (2) and 5-chloro-2-(jodomethane-sulfonamido)-benzophenone (8) with NH3 the halogen can not be replaced by an amino group. Instead, either the corresponding benzophenone imines (5, 9) or, by subsequent elimination of SO2 and HX, 6-chloro-4-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-quinazoline (6) are formed. The mechanism of the formation of6 was thoroughly studied.
