Abstract

Renormalization group equations are derived which permit study of the behavior of the quantum theory effective potential of a field in curved space-time. Within the framework of asymptotically free models the asymptotes of the potential are studied for the limit of a strong gravitational field, the limit of large scalar fields, and the composite limit. The conditions for stability of quantum field theory in an external gravitational field are investigated.
