Investigation of the submillimeter dielectric properties of bismuth

The transmission of a bismuth symmetric strip line (SSL) in a magnetic field B up to 5 T at a temperature T = 4.2 K and a wavelength of 337 Μm was studied. The geometry of the measurements corresponded to the condition of excitation of Faraday waves in the walls of the SSL. The dispersion equation for an electromagnetic wave propagating in the SSL is derived. It is shown that the positions of the poles and zeros of the dielectric function of semiconductors and semimetals in a magnetic field can be determined from the character of the changes in the magnetotransmission of the SSL.
