Abstract
This article shows that it is possible to describe the plastic behavior of a single crystal with cpu symmetry by means of a tensor-polynomial yield condition which takes the symmetry of the lattice into account. It is found that the tensor that determines the ductility properties of hexagonal crystals has three independent components, which can be established experimentally. An approximate relation for the yield point of the crystal in tension is constructed, and an analytical relation is established between the critical shear stresses in slip by different systems.
