Certain general questions of fast-electron transport

III. Multiple scattering of fast electrons in an inhomogeneous plate

Abstract

The segment model is used to derive a general method for calculating the differential electron flux in an inhomogeneous plate in the continuous-deceleration approximation. The kinetic equation for the flux is transformed into a system of recurrence relations for the angular moments of the harmonic coefficients of the distribution function. These recurrence relations give a simple algorithm for a computer calculation. Comparison is made with experiment for the case of the distribution of stopped electrons. The basic properties of the special functions which arise in the theory are examined.
