Abstract

The first part of the present investigation attempts to clarify some unsolved theoretical problems for the well-known model — electron plus a secondarily quantized plane wave. Approximations are found to bring this model within the framework of exact quantum electrodynamics. Some mathematical and physical features of the problem are studied.
