Influence of composition on optical properties and electronic characteristics of Fe-Ni alloys at high temperatures

Abstract

The influence of the temperature and composition on the optical constants (n-ik) of iron-nickel alloys is studied in the wavelength interval from 0.4 to 3.39μm. The relaxation time and the concentration of slowly relaxing electrons are calculated on the basis of the data obtained, and their contribution to the conductivity of the alloys at constant current is estimated. The greatest anomalies in the variation of the electronic characteristics with composition are detected at a concentration of 3–5 wt. % Ni in the alloy. The applicability of the hybridized s-d band model for a description of the kinetic properties of collectivized electrons in iron-nickel alloys is discussed, and on this basis the electronic characteristics of the alloys are estimated.
