Simulation of the formation of a glide band

Soviet Physics Journal Aims and scope

Abstract

The initial stage in the development of a glide band in NaCl crystals is simulated. The process of double cross slip of segments of screw dislocations was examined according to the scheme proposed by Wiedersich. A quantitative estimate of the parameters characterizing the development of the glide band is made: structures and rate of expansion of the band, average slip distance of the dislocations, dislocation density, and others. The degree to which the different parameters affect the development of the glide band is established: ratio of the edge and screw dislocation velocities, as well as the lattice friction stress of dislocations.
