Summary

  1. 1.

A cytogenetic study on an inter-subsectional F1 hybrid ofChrysanthemum lineare (2n=18) xCh. nipponicum (2n=18) was reported.

  2. 2.

Although chromosomes ofCh. lineare were about two times longer than those ofCh. nipponicum, chromosomes at meiotic division in the PMCs of F1 hybrids formed bivalents and univalents.

  3. 3.

Six types of chromosome configurations were observed: 5II+8I, 4II+10I, 3II+12I, 2II+14I, 1II+16I and 18I. The commonest configuration was 3II+12I.

  4. 4.

All of the bivalents were of unequal form and most were matrix connections.

  5. 5.

Bivalents were the longer chromosomes of the parental species. Therefore, the longer chromosomes ofCh. lineare were partially homologous to the longer chromosomes ofCh. nipponicum, while the shorter ones and satellite chromosomes were completely nonhomologous to the corresponding chromosomes ofCh. nipponicum.
