Abstract
Emission of light within the blue range of the spectrum (λmax=480–510 nm) has been found to occur when “pure” KCl and NaCl single crystals are bombarded by hydrogen ions with 30-keV energy. It is suggested that water molecules adsorbed at the surface constitute the emission centers.
