Summary
A ground convergence-support reaction analysis is extended to the case of an opening excavated in horizontally layered strata. Simplifying assumptions include linear elastic behaviour and classical beam theory. The method is used to demonstrate the influence on bolt loads of a number of factors including the timing of support installation, failure of the roof, number, thicknesses and flexibilities of the rock layers, type of rock bolt, bolt spacings, bolt lengths, roof span, and roof beam thickness.
