SH waves in stressed elastic plates

  • Published:
pure and applied geophysics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A theoretical study is made of the propagation ofSH waves of small amplitude in an infinite elastic plate subjected to a primary normal stress. It is shown that the effect of the stress may be represented by a re-scaling of the plate thickness, provided that one elastic constant is also redefined suitably.
