Summary
In the framework of a zonal model of the equatorial atmosphere, the joint influence of the Coriolis force and stratification on stationary motion is studied. In addition we assume a Boussinesq approximation and consider the equatorial region as a ‘macrodisturbance’ localized round the Equator, against a background of an isothermal atmosphere with a zonal distribution. Exact analytical solutions of the system of equations (1)–(5) are obtained and analyzed. An interesting result is that the equatorial atmosphere could exist in different ‘stationary states’ in each of them separately, as well as in a number of them simultaneously.
