Abstract

This paper presents a profile of the water industry in Italy. An accurate analysis of the state of the water resources in Italy, as well as a critical study of the waterworks, are provided. Besides, the recent law which has just been passed by the Italian Parliament is illustrated. An overview of how water, wastewater and receiving water bodies (rivers, lakes and seas) are managed in Italy is outlined, as well as the expectations connected to the extensive reform of the water industry in Italy are also sketched out. Finally, a comparison between the water industry in Italy and in some other European countries is carried out and briefly discussed.
