Summary
The oxidation ofα- naphthylamine with molecular oxygen in chlorobenzene and in the presence of copper stearate takes place through the formation of a ternary amine-copper-oxygen complex. The oxidation of the amine in the complex takes place with an activation energy of 14.7 kcal/mole and an activation entropy of −35.3 entropy units.
