Summary

The frequency of occurrence of gale-force winds (Beaufort 8 and stronger) in West-Germany is analysed for the period 1956–1989. It is found that there has been a substantial decline in the frequency of gale-force winds over the 34 year period, with the largest decline occurring in the 1970s.
