Conclusions

Rearrangement of the carbon chain of the para-substituent to form 4-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl-acetaldehyde dimethylacetal occurs during the reaction of 4-(α-methoxy-β-bromoethyl)-2,6-di-tert-butyl-phenol with sodium methoxide.
