On the theory of non-Newtonian polymer flow

Abstract

Shear flow of polymers is examined on the assumption that the main contribution to polymer viscosity is made by the dissipation of energy in the destruction of the fluctuation network. A simple physicomechanical model of the flow process is proposed and used to obtain an expression for the polymer viscosity in terms of certain functions reflecting the influence of the molecular structure.
