Conclusions
-
1.
A method on valence structures is proposed for evaluating the energies of chemical bonds.
-
2.
The method is applied to the chemisorption of oxygen on metals. The calculated heats of atomic and molecular chemisorption are compared with the experimental data. Calculation shows that the heat of chemisorption is determined chiefly by the form of the chemisorbed particle and depends weakly on the number of surface atoms with which the particle interacts.
