Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

A method was developed for the preparation of organogermanium compounds by direct synthesis at 200–240° by using a liquid alkyl halide in the reaction.

  2. 2.

It was shown that the direct synthesis reaction can be run at 160–220° with a gaseous alkyl halide under the influence of Co60 γ-radiation.

  3. 3.

Only compounds of type RGeX3 are formed in the direct synthesis of organogermanium compounds from the higher alkyl halides.

  4. 4.

The addition of copper lowers the amount of GeBr4 in the reaction products when the direct synthesis is run at 200–240°.
