Conclusions
-
1.
The chlorodimethylsulfoxide complex of rhodium in the reduced form catalyzes the homogeneous hydrogenation and isomerization of pentenes. The relative rates of their conversion decrease in the order 1-pentene>3-methyl-1-butene>trans-2-pentene>cis-2-pentene.
-
2.
2-Methyl-2-butene is not hydrogenated or isomerized, probably because of steric hindrance. 2-Methyl-1-butene does not react and deactivates the rhodium catalyst with respect to the transformation reactions of olefins.
-
3.
Under the conditions selected, the Rh complex does not catalyze the reduction of dimethyl sulfoxide by molecular hydrogen.
