Conclusions
-
1.
The character of the σ-MO Cu-ligand bond in copper complexes depends both on the nature of the atoms which directly constitute the coordination sphere and on the far-removed chelate atoms.
-
2.
The σ molecular orbitals are more covalent if the electronegativity of the directly coordinated atoms is lower.
-
3.
The σ molecular orbitals are more covalent in compounds in which the nearest coordination sphere remains the same if the electronegativity of the remote atoms in the ligand is increased.
