Color reactions of the rare earth elements with the new reagent 2-carboxybenzene-(1-azo-2)-1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid-(7-azo-1)-4-nitrobenzene

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The reagent 2-carboxybenzene-(1-azo-2)-1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid(-7-azo-1)-4-nitrobenzene (I) gives color reactions with individual rare earth elements differing sharply in sensitivity. The greatest difference is observed for elements of the cerium and yttrium groups.

  2. 2.

    The possibility of determining elements of the cerium group in the presence of 40-fold amounts of elements of the yttrium group was demonstrated for the example of lanthanum and ytterbium.

  3. 3.

    The selectivity of the color reaction of lanthanum with respect to other cations and anions was studied.
