Conclusions

  1. 1.

The optical properties of 3-acetates of Δ5-pregnene-3β, 16β-diol-20-ones, containing substituents SCN, SAc, Br, OAc, and N3 in the 17α-position, and their 16β-acetoxy derivatives in the region of the p →π * transition of the carbonyl group were studied by the circular dichroism method.

  2. 2.

The sign and magnitude of the Cotton effect of the p →π * transition of the carbonyl group in the compounds studied are determined to a substantial degree by the nature of the 17α-substituent.
