Investigation of the conformations of methyl-di(chloromethyl)phosphine oxide in the crystalline phase and in solutions

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Methyl-di(chloromethyl)phosphine oxide exists in solutions in the form of a mixture of conformers with trans-trans and trans-gauche-orientation of the C-Cl bonds with respect to the phosphoryl group.

  2. 2.

    A trans-gauche-structure is stabilized in the crystalline phase.
