Conclusions
-
1.
α-Dinitromethyltetrahydrofuran is formed mainly fromα-trinitromethyltetrahydrofuran when tetranitromethane and its derivatives are reacted with THF.
-
2.
The ratio of theα-trinitromethyl- andα-dinitromethyltetrahydrofurans when XC(NO2)3(X=H, NO2) is reacted with THF depends on the stoichiometry of the starting reactants and the nature of the solvent. The amount ofα-dinitromethyltetrahydrofuran increases when excess THF is used.
