Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The action of naphthalenelithium on carboranylmercury chlorides leads to the formation of the corresponding bis-carboranyl derivatives of mercury, which is the first example of the symmetrization of carboranylmercury halides.

     
  2. 2.

    A convenient method was proposed for the synthesis of the difficultly accessible carboranylmercury chlorides.
