Conclusions
-
1.
A study was made of the comparative stability of the O-glycoside carbohydrate-amino acid and carbohydrate-carbohydrate linkages of the O-maltoside and O-melibioside of some serine derivatives in both acid and alkaline media.
-
2.
The O-glycoside carbohydrate-carbohydrate linkage is more labile in acid medium. In alkaline medium the O-glycoside carbohydrate-amino acid linkage is cleaved by theβ-elimination mechanism, while the stability of the O-glycoside carbohydrate-carbohydrate linkages is close to the stability of the same linkages in the corresponding disaccharides.
