Communication 47. Transformations of cyclopentadienes in presence of aluminum oxide

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    On the examples of cyclopentadiene, an equilibrium mixture of the 1- and 2-methylcyclopentadienes, and also the 1,5,5-, 1,2,3-, and 1,2,4-trimethylcyclopentadienes, it was shown that when passed over Al2O3 at 300–500° the substituted cyclopentadienes undergo irreversible conversion to the corresponding cyclopentenes. The reaction is not accompanied by the formation of aromatic compounds.

  2. 2.

    The transformation of each of the trimethylcyclopentadienes in the presence of Al2O3 leads to an identical mixture of trimethylcyclopentenes.
