Autoionization and complex formation of molybdenum pentafluoride in a melt

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The electric conductivity of molybdenum pentafluoride was measured in the temperature interval 70–150°.

  2. 2.

The complex formation of MoF5 with alkali metal fluorides was studied, and complex compounds with the composition MIMoF6 were isolated, where M=K, Rb, and Cs.

  3. 3.

The electric conductivity of liquid MoF5, as well as its tendency to undergo reactions of complex formation, are evidence of a tendency for coordination of the fluoride ion by molybdenum (V).
