  1. 1.

    The synthesis was carried out of all four possible stereoisomeric lactones of 3-hydroxy-2,4,6-trimethylheptanedioic acid having cis-disposition of the methyl groups in the lactone ring.

  2. 2.

    One of the lactones obtained is the racemate of the product of the oxidative cleavage of methyrnycin, neomethymycin, picromycin, and narbomycin.
