Comparative hydrogenation of quinones of complex steric structure

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    A comparative hydrogenation of quinones of the bicyclic series over a Raney nickel catalyst was conducted at 45° and atmospheric pressure in dioxane medium.

  2. 2.

    The sterically complex structure of the bicyclic quinones prevents the occurrence of the insertion of hydrogen into the side ring and has little effect on the rate of hydrogenation of the quinoid portion of the molecule.
