Conclusions

  1. 1.

    An investigation was made of the alkylation of p-cresol with α-, γ-, and δ-epoxides in presence of zinc chloride on alumina.

     
  2. 2.

    In the alkylation of p-cresol withα-epoxides only O-alkylation occurs with formation of 2-(p-tolyIoxy)-1-alkanols.

     
  3. 3.

    In the alkylation of p-cresol withγ- andδ-epoxides in presence of zinc chloride on alumina reaction requires relatively high temperatures (250 and 300°) and passes through the stage of dehydration of the epoxides into dienic hydrocarbons.
