Summary
-
1.
The reaction of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane with silicon tetrachloride proceeds as a telomerization reaction with formation of telomers of formula Cl3Si-[OSi(CH3)2]3n-Cl.
-
2.
In presence of catalytic amounts of ferric chloride the reaction is complicated by fragmentation of the siloxane chains with formation of oligomers of varying functionality.
-
3.
Nine previously undescribed compounds were isolated and characterized.
