Summary
-
1.
A comparative study of the different methods for obtaining dichlorocarbene was made by the method of “competing” addition.
-
2.
The relative rate constants for the dichloromethylenation of cyclohexene and a number of its 1-substituted derivatives were determined, and also their relative reactivity in this reaction, which values are found to be in complete agreement with the electronic nature of the substituents attached to the multiple bond, and are independent of the method used to generate the dichlorocarbene.
