    An investigation was made of the activities of various reactants in the formation of polyamide-arylates by interphase polycondensation.

    In the formation of polyamide-arylates by interphase polycondensation diamines are more active than dihydric phenols toward dicarboxylic acid chlorides.

    The heterogeneity in composition in the polyamide-arylates from dian and 1, 6-hexanediamine is related to the ease of diffusion of 1, 6-hexanediamine into the organic phase and its high reactivity toward the dicarboxylic acid chloride, as compared with the potassium salt of dian.

    Polyamide-arylates were synthesized by interphase polycondensation from 4,4′- (methylphosphinylidene)-dibenzoyl, adipoyl, sebacoyl, isophthaloyl, and terephthaloyl chlorides, the diols dian, diallyldian, and resorcinol, and the diamines 1, 6-hexanediamine, m-phenylenediamine, and piperazine; their properties were investigated.
