Conclusions

A study was made of the transformations of 1-substituted and 1, 1-disubstituted silacyclopentanes (substituents: alkyls, aryls, chlorine, and alkyls with functional groups) at 20–120° in presence of metal halides.

At 20° or higher in presence of catalytic amounts of aluminum chloride silacyclopentanes with one or two alkyl substituents on silicon polymerize. Hetero-chain sila-hydrocarbon polymers are formed with silicon in the main chain and a molecular weight of 1 · 103-2.5 · 103.
