Conclusions

The polymerization of 1, 1-disubstituted silacyclobutanes containing silicon-attached alkyl, aryl, and alkenyl groups by heating them at atmospheric pressure or in sealed ampoules provides a method for the preparation of macromolecular sila-hydrocarbon polymers with silicon in the main chain.

For 1, 1-diphenylsilacyclobutane, 1, 1-dimethylsilacyclobutane, and other silacyclobutane polymers intrinsic viscosities and molecular weights were determined, x-ray diffraction photographs were taken, differential thermal analysis curves were obtained, and melting and glass points were measured.
