Monosaccharides Communication 10. New synthesis of D-threo-L-galacto-octose

Conclusions

The syntheses of D-threo-L-galacto-octose and D-threo-L-ido-octonic acid from D-galactose are described; these confirm that the new method for the preparation of higher sugars via 2,3-dehydro-2,3-dideoxy aldonic acids is general.
