Summary
-
1.
A new method is proposed for the synthesis of higher sugars. Unlike existing methods, it permits the lengthening of the carbon chain of a monosaccharide by two carbon atoms at a time.
-
2.
The syntheses of L-glycero-L-ido-heptose and L-glycero-L-galacto-heptose from L-arabinose are described.
