Abstract
A treatment program of stress inoculation for the pain experienced by 16 severely burned adults was carried out by the nursing staff of a burn and trauma unit. Results showed that treated subjects improved on measures of unauthorized pain requests, physical and emotional self-ratings, “tanking” ratings, compliance with hospital routine, and state and trait anxiety, whereas no-treated subjects showed little improvement.
