Summary
-
1.
The reaction of condensation of dialdehyde cellulose with nitromethane with formation of a seven membered ring occurs in aqueous alkaline medium containing NaOH in amounts of 0.5–1 equivalent for each CHO group of the dialdehyde cellulose.
-
2.
Condensation of dialdehyde cellulose with nitroethane, nitroethanol, and 2-nitro-1,3-propanediol, gave new cellulose derivatives with a secondary and tertiary nitro group.
