Abstract
The operation of a multimode oscillator — a reflex klystron-coupled to a waveguide line is studied. The behavior of such a device is described by a system of second-order equations for the voltages, whose right sides are governed by the induced current, which is a nonlinear function of the sums of the voltages of the various frequencies across the electron gap. Solution of this system leads to equations having the same structure as those for a gas laser. Conclusions regarding the transformation of the spectrum of a multimode klystron under the influence of an external signal are confirmed experimentally.

We find a good qualitative confirmation of these conclusions in experiment.
