Additional information

The portion of this essay dealing with the content of Stalin's works and Soviet criticism of them in the first decade after his death is a summarization of my ‘Stalin's Contribution to Soviet Philosophy’,International Philosophical Quarterly 5 (1965), 267–303. The research for the updating of Soviet critique and criticism of Stalin in East Europe and the People's Republic of China was undertaken, in part, at the Summer Seminar (1976) sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities on ‘Contemporary Marxism’ under Professor Richard T. De George, Department of Philosophy, University of Kansas.
