Abstract
The effect of shock compression on the crystal structure and the electron levels in mercury oxide has been studied. On the basis of x-ray spectrometric, x-ray radiographic, and neutronographic examinations, a new sphalerite-type crystal form of mercury oxide with a lattice parametera=5.43 Å is hypothetically assumed to have appeared as a result.
