Abstract
The contribution of nonresonance inelastic collisions of atoms or molecules to the transport coefficients is examined within the frame-work of the classical approximation of collision theory. Attention is concentrated on transitions between upper levels adjacent to the continuous spectrum. A general estimate is obtained for the total inelastic collision cross section, and certain limiting cases are investigated.
