Metal Science and Heat Treatment of Metals Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The optimum regime for heat treating AL19 alloy castings is one-stage heating prior to quenching at 545±5° for 10 to 12 hours (regime T4) and artificial aging at 175 ±5° for 3 to 6 hours (regime T5).

  2. 2.

Compared with two-stage systems, this regime considerably simplifies the procedure, improves the efficiency of the heat treatment equipment and halves the consumption of electric power.

  3. 3.

Quenching in boiling water considerably reduces the warping of the castings and eliminates the need to straighten them after heat treatment.
