Abstract
It was shown experimentally that there are three types of curve for the temperature variation of Δd/d (001) for phlogopites. The relationship is linear for hard phlogopites while the soft phlogopites have negative expansion coefficients over the range of 160–250 °C. The curves for phlogopites of average hardness occupy intermediate positions. This effect is explained by the existence of layers which are capable of being dehydrated due to the presence of interstitial water.
